Motive to offer faster emergency response times through Rapid SOS

Motive has partnered with Rapid SOS to provide faster emergency response times in the event of a collision.

“We see about 1,000 collisions a month on the Motive platform,” Abishek Gupta, vice-president of product management said during a press briefing during the American Trucking Associations’ Management Conference & Exhibition. “A good majority are high-severity collisions. Those are the ones that really matter to us.”

More than half of fatal collisions involving a large truck occur in rural areas, and on average it takes more than 15 minutes for help to arrive at the scene. “You can get Domino’s delivered faster to these locations.”

Gupta said every minute of response time saved results in a 13% higher survival rate for those involved. Integrating with Rapid SOS promises to reduce the response time in the event of a collision. Motive has a safety team comprised of some 400 people who work around the clock and assess collision severity based on Motive’s AI camera.

That team is able to quickly deploy help using the Rapid SOS system precisely where it’s needed almost immediately upon the collision occurring. It also notifies the fleet manager and conveys crucial details including truck VIN, licence plate, driver, etc., to first responders.

Customers can elect to be notified first, or to have Motive’s safety team immediately contact the appropriate emergency response personnel in the area of the crash.

“It’s available within seconds,” Gupda said. “We typically alert the fleet first and let the back office know. If the back office chooses to have us automatically tell Rapid SOS and emergency response services, we can do that.”

Fallbacks are in place for areas that don’t have strong cellular service, Gupta said. Rapid SOS works both in the U.S. and Canada, and Motive plans to make the service available to customers immediately, after having already undergone beta testing with select fleets.
