As Canada’s trucking industry celebrates National Trucking Week from Sept. 1-7, the sector’s key players recognize the role truck drivers play in sustaining the nation’s economy, and the government says it will keep investing in the industry’s development.
“We have recently witnessed, in real-time, how every element of our supply chains is essential to move goods across our big country every day. This National Trucking Week, I’m inviting all Canadians to celebrate the truckers in this country – they literally keep Canada moving,” said federal Minister of Transport Pablo Rodriguez in a statement.
“Just like the trucking industry is here for Canadians, the Government of Canada will invest in our workers, support trucking, and help foster innovation in this industry,” he added.
The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) echoed these sentiments in a statement on Friday, calling the nation’s truck drivers the unsung heroes of the national economy.
“Like the famous saying goes, if you got it, a truck brought it,” said CTA chairman Greg Munden. “I am proud to recognize all the amazing people who keep our country running – from the professional truck drivers who dutifully deliver for Canadians, to the dispatchers who help them navigate our busy roadways to the heavy-duty technicians who keep the equipment rolling safely. Thank you.”
National Trucking Week, established by the CTA in the late 1990s, aims to spotlight the contributions of the hundreds of thousands of men and women in the Canadian trucking industry. Throughout the week, various events, including barbecues, picnics, and truck show’ n shines, will take place across the country at company facilities.
The week also serves as an opportunity for companies to promote the industry and the career opportunities it offers. The CTA’s Choose to Truck campaign is a key resource in these efforts, aiming to attract new talent to the industry.
